Job-Related FAQ
1. Why work for POF? Working for POF is a phenomenal opportunity for organizers to work with a variety of workers, unions, students and activists. We pay competitive hourly or daily wages and offer maximum schedule flexibility. Project assignments range from a few months to a few weeks or even for a few days. And POF's style of work is particularly empowering for experienced organizers that want to contribute to a broader world and still make a living. 2. What about compensation? Where do I have to live? Depending on experience, POF field organizers earn as much or more than their institution-based peers. And because there's still a lot of travel involved, you can live pretty much anywhere you want. For researchers, most positions are home-based. 3. What kinds of jobs are there with the Prewitt Organizing Fund (POF)? Primarily field and research positions. Except for direct hires for hosts, all POF jobs are project-based and temporary. Though project staffers are typically treated as employees while working, some are hired as independent contractors. 4. Shouldn't progressive organizations be recruiting and hiring their own staff organizers? Our agreements welcome partners to offer our organizers jobs with them post-project. Most times, however, campaigns demand experienced short term help to launch or supplement organizing - either on the ground or at the supervisory, oversight or mentoring levels. And these days, most unions and field-oriented progressive organizations simply can't afford a standing organizing staff that's sufficient to mount regular, large or strategic campaigns. 5. Does POF place organizers? Yes. |
